1980s - Dot Cooper and the High Rollers

For several years during the 1980's I free-lanced with Dot Cooper and the High Rollers, and produced their CD of the same name at SONY Studios in Sydney, Australia.

MEDIUM Rock'n'roll
Classic guitar based rock. The guitar was recorded in one take as I recall.

POP SLOW BALLAD

Noteworthy points :

1 - I did the horn arrangements for this one. I love the key and time changes in this tune, very "Puccini" !!!

2 - The guitar - subtle out-of-phased Strat accompaniment style. In these power ballads, in fact in most pop music, the guitar's job is to blend in and support the vocals.

MEDIUM SOUL BALLAD
Once again with the funky Stratocaster rhythm sounds.

MEDIUM R'n'B
On this one I played two separate parts - one track of R'n'B rhythm and one of buesy lead guitar fills

JAZZ BIG BAND Swing
Mostly straight rhythm guitar Freddie Green style - mixed way back on this one, pretty tight with the snare and very hard to hear. That's OK - it's not about the guitar !

MEDIUM R'n'B
A unison line with the horns and then just solid funky rhythm to the end.

The 1960's sound
Lot's of female vocals with the BiG horn sound.
