Recordings - 1993 - Soundpost - Jazz Guitar and Violin

Soundpost is an album of accessible performances of Swing and Latin Jazz classics which features the jazz recording debut of internationally reknowned jazz violinist Ian Cooper and the legendary jazz guitarist Ike Isaacs, who was a regular with Stephane Grapelli back in the day.

• acoustic guitar (Alvarez-Yairi Nylon String),
• did some of the arrangements
• produced the whole album at Rich Studios in Sydney.

STYLE of MUSIC	AUDIO VIDEO
SWING BLUES - Billie's Bounce Medium tempo jazz blues. Head, then my solo.
BOSSA NOVA - A Fine Romance Intro - my muted guitar comes in first and then Ike Isaacs overlays gorgeous chords. I bubbled away on arpeggios here and there behind the violin melody.... tastefully of course ! - then CUT to my solo. Ike takes over and fade.
SWING - Sweet Georgia Brown Introduction then the excerpt CUTS to my guitar solo
JAZZ BALLAD - Fingerstyle - Misty I played classical guitar on this one. Introduction - Violin and classical guitar set it up, then Ike Isaacs overlays beautiful harmonies during the melody section. CUT - to Ike Isaac's guitar solo in it's entirety with myself backing on nylon string. The two guitar sounds blend beautifully. Of course you can't go wrong with a player of Ike's calibre ! At the end of his solo Ike takes the tune in a completely different direction. FADE TO - the last few seconds - where one of those magical jazz moments occured. Ian Cooper's violin harmonics set off a trigger in Ike and myself and this rocking / contrapuntal 2 guitar figure appeared from absolutely nowhere ! That was not how we'd rehearsed it !
GYPSY SWING - Djangology In the vein of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grapelli. The tune starts with a unison riff and head, then straight into my solo, which I kept melodic and simple.
