Concerto de Toronto- Leo Brouwer
Rare footage of John Williams in rehearsal.
My comments:
For those who haven't experienced it, this video may give you some idea of just how hard it is to perform concerto
material with orchestra. Not that Williams makes it look difficult, far from it in fact. As usual, he makes it look like a stroll in
the park!
Notice that the discussion is not at all about getting the notes - but rather about cues and dynamics.
I haven't looked at the score for this piece, but these excerpts are good examples of very difficult modern guitar repertoire.
Notice Williams running snippets backstage with Brouwer, sitting cross legged, with the instrument on the "wrong" leg,
talking, and still the notes are pouring out with that trademark Williams authority and tone.
