An ensemble is a group of performers.

Most music is performed by ensembles - groups of musicians playing rock, jazz, blues, folk or classical music. Oh yes, and even country and western!

The solo performer is an exception. Playing by yourself is more demanding than ensemble - and the reasons are both psychological and technical.

You also learn a lot from playing in ensemble
  • how to listen
  • how to divide your attention
  • how to match your tone and dynamics
  • timing !
  • rhythm
  • ... and lots more.


With all that in mind you should look for opportunities to play in ensembles whenever you can.
